The Basics of Roullete

Roullete

Roullete, also known as roulette, is a casino game where players place bets on the number or grouping of numbers that they think will come up on the spinning wheel. The game has offered glamour, mystery, and excitement to casino-goers since the 17th century, and is a popular choice worldwide. The game’s rules are relatively simple, but the betting possibilities provide a surprising level of depth for serious betters.

There are three main types of roulette bets: inside, outside, and announced bets. Each of these offers different odds for winning and differing payouts. Bets placed on a single number or a range of pockets based on their position are called inside bets, while bets on specific groups of pockets (such as high or low, odd or even) are outside bets. There are a number of other betting combinations that are called announced bets, although these are only available on certain online European roulette variants and have unique French names.

A roulette wheel consists of a solid wooden disk slightly convex in shape with a metal compartment or fret around its perimeter. Thirty-six of these compartments are painted alternately red and black, while the two green ones – on American roulette wheels – carry the signs 0 and 00. A croupier spins the wheel and drops a ball that moves through the numbered sectors of the wheel until it comes to rest in one of them. The player who has chosen the number on which the ball lands wins the bet.

When playing roulette, you need to determine your maximum budget before you start placing bets. Each roulette table carries a placard describing the minimum and maximum bets allowed. Choose a table within your budget, and remember that inside bets offer higher payouts than outside bets.

In the case of a high or low bet, you’re wagering that the winning number will either be in the first 12 (called a douzaine in French) or the last 18 on the layout (19-36). These are considered outside bets because neither the 0 nor the 00 count as part of the sequence. If the winning number is in the douzaine, you win a bet of 2-1. Otherwise, you lose. Similarly, if the winning number is in the second or third dozen, you win a bet of 5-1.
